Essie Sleek Sticks

Last Wednesday I met with a very good friend of mine for dinner and one of our favorite topics is everything beauty-related. She only came back to Copenhagen for a few days and stocked up on some of her favorite products she only can get here so we got talking… One of the things she mentioned were the Essie Sleek Sticks. By coincidence Sina from SugarCreamBeauty posted about them the very same day (I saw the post during my dinner with my friend) and got hooked instantly and went to buy some myself the next day.

As they are unfortunately quite expensive in Denmark (we have to pay around 16 Euro per pack as opposed to 8 Euro in Germany) I only got two: “oh my gold” and “love to love you”. In the US they have 12 different designs, but only 6 of them are available over here as well as in Germany. I really hope that the other ones will soon be available in Europe as well, because I have my eyes especially set on “over the moon” (the designs can be found here).

But now to the application procedure… The Sleek Sticks come in different sizes so you can match them to your fingernails perfectly. In total you can choose from 9 different widths and each width is available twice (duh). Included is also a little nail file, which comes in handy if you don’t have your own file available.

Step 1: Clean your nails. Wash your hands with soap and water dry them off and maybe quickly clean them with nail polish remover to get rid of any excessive dirt/grease on top of your nails. I quickly just dipped each finger into my Sephora nail polish remover and that did the trick.

Step 2: Now you match the stickers to your nails. I also just cut them in pieces, which made it easier to match them.

Step 3: Take the sticker foil of the plastic. Here a little hint: keep one of your index fingers foil-free until the very end. It is a bit hard to get the sticker foil of the plastic and it might loosen the foil of the finger if you use a finger, which already has foil on (hope that makes sense) – you have to scratch under the foil a little bit with your nail and that might just result in splintering the foil on the nail. Anyhow… After taking the sticker foil off place it on the nail and press it to it. It will start sticking instantly.

Step 4: Bend the excessive foil over the end of your nail (I also cut off a bit because I have so short nails and it just kept sticking to my finger) and file the excess off.

And voilá – perfect nails with a great design, which you could not achieve with nail polish. All you have to do is now wait two hours until you can wash your hands again/get in touch with water. I have to say I am quite happy with the result. You can’t feel the foils on your nails at all and I think it looks great. Just do not take a closer look at the nail tips – they do indeed look a little bit coarse at the tops, due to the filing. I guess you can achieve better results if you take even more time but I am still satisfied enough. To take the foil off you are supposed to lift it off on one side and pull it off the nail. I am not sure how well that will work but we will see.

Did you see the Sleek Sticks in stores already and did you maybe already try them out? What do you think of them and are you satisfied with the result?

Love, S.
