Yankee Love

The ones following me for a while know how much I love candles. Due to the fact that I live in Denmark at the moment I unfortunately have a hard time getting my hands on Yankee candles, and the ones from Bath & Bodyworks are also out of the question.

The Nelly online store thankfully has some of the little samplers and I tried various kinds this summer and fall. Now when we left for Florida I knew I wanted to dig a bit more deeply into candles. I decided for the Yankee tarts even before I left, just because everything else was bearing one big problem: glass jars. Especially the Yankee ones come in quite heavy ones and there was no chance on earth that I would take those home with me. So even though I would have loved to try them I tore myself away from them rather quickly and stocked up on tarts only, as they way about nothing. And how I stocked up…

In Florida we went to regular malls and outlet malls and thankfully Yankee is also represented in those. 12 tarts for $10 – such a bargain. I bought myself 12 right the first time I hit the first store and my mom was so nice to buy me my second pack of 12 a few days later. Additionally I went into a store in a regular mall (the outlet ones do not always have all different kinds etc.) and bought an additional pack of 10. So lucky me came home with a pack of 34 tarts, most are some vanilla kind or with fruit.

And oh how do I love them. The special thing about the tarts is that they are just wax but not a candle. You put them on top of a so called “tarts wax melt warmer” and light a tea light underneath. After a while the wax melts and the smell startes to fill the room. As soon as you extinguish the tea light the wax becomes hart again rather soon and the smell fades. According to Yankee the candle lasts up to 8 hours, which I do not quite agree on. I use a tart about 2-3 times for around 6 hours. Yes, the smell becomes less over time but on the other hand it is not as overpowering anymore. I tried cinnamon the other day and that was quite a “strong” smell when I used it the first time but became better the 2nd and 3rd one. And even when you are done using it there is still smell in the wax and I read that you can i.e. put it between your folded laundry. So far I have only used soap bars but I will try a vanilla scented wax tart as soon as I am done using it.

SONY DSCAbove you can see, which tart holder I got myself. I went for a rather simple design and as all of our furniture are white, dark wood and dark leather I thought this fits rather nicely. They have lots of different little holders and should I ever have the opportunity to live in the States again I will most definitely indulge in more Yankee things.

Bath & Bodyworks Haul

The ones who are following my blog for a while now know how much I absolutely adore Bath & Bodyworks. But I am not sure if everyone knows what Bath & Bodyworks actually is.

It is a store, which you can find all over the United States and Canada. They offer a wide range of everything body related (duh…) including shower gels, body lotions, body butters, etc. But they also have different kind of hand soaps, air freshener, candles, lip products, hand sanitizer and much much more. Those products are offered in different scents and I think I am not lying when I say they have way more than 20 different scent lines (every scent line has body wash, body spray, body lotion, etc.).

Unfortunately the stores are only available in North America and as liquids cannot be shipped overseas, ordering online is also not an option. I therefore always have to stock up TONS of products when I am actually in the States (and yes, I can honestly say that Bath & Bodyworks is one of the many reasons why I at some point would like to live in the US again).

My favorites have always been the “sweeter” scents like vanilla and everything fruity. I therefore especially love indulging in their fall and winter scents (good thing that the last three times I was in the States was in the fall/winter). Below you can see parts of my little haul. The little bottles I bought as goodies for some good friends of mine and I love to give them as presents. One body wash is missing as it is already standing in the shower.

First of all: sorry for the bad quality of the pictures. They were taken at 14:00 in the afternoon and it was already super dark outside (and we only have indirect light in the apartment). I therefore had to lighten the pictures up manually but they were so dark before that there was only so much I could do.

As you can see I mainly stuck to the winter editions and scents. My absolute favorite is the Vanilla Bean Noel but I cannot wait to try the others as well. I also bought two hand soaps – one for the bathroom and one for the kitchen as well as some santicizer. I also bought some special “sleep” products, but I am keeping those for a separate post, as they are quite special and deserve more, hehe :)

Do you know Bath & Bodyworks and if yes, which is your favorite scent? And if you do not know it, are you interested to try some of the products? And for which scent would you go?

American Beauty Wishes

If I have not mentioned it before, BUT… I am going to the US in a little under two months time. And I am overly excited already and making online shopping lists already.

Two days ago I talked about not wanting to make a “wish list” in order to have “just something” to blog about but this one I was actually intending on making for quite some time. I am actually planning on also making a video about it where I will talk a little bit about the products etc. See it as a give and take: I share my experiences with some of the products and in return I would love to hear from YOU, which other products I should look into.

So here we go… (descriptions will go from left to right, top to bottom)

via

1. ChapStick Medicated: My alltime favorite and I am unfortunately out at the moment. Only kind of chap stick that works for me and I love the medicated version the most, as it tingles so nicely on the lips.

2. Nars Blushes: I definitely want to swatch the blushes at the counter. Right now I am planning on taking a closer look at the colors Miss Liberty, Outlaw and Deep Throat.

3. Olay Pore Minimizing and Scrub: I tried this last October for the first time and could take it without a problem even with my allergies. I loved how it worked with my skin and will definitely stock up on at least 1-2 bottles.

4. Guerlain La Petit Robe Noir: I smelled this in a store the other day and fell in love. It is quite expensive over here so I am hoping for a duty free bargain.

5. Burt’s Bees Radiance Night Creme: I had a trial size and recently bought the full size product and am loving it. I will definitely buy another jar, just to have it as it is definitely cheaper to buy in the US.

6. Mia Clarisonic: One of my all time wishes. I was already tempted last year but did not buy it as I would need an adapter and all. Also when I saw it last year it was on my last day of vacation so I was running out of money ;)

7. Revlon Lip Butters: I already have two of them (do not have the names on hand) but want to buy more. Currently I am planning on buying Sugar Frosting, Crème Brule, Peach Parfait and Tutti Frutti.

8. Bath & Bodyworks: Many shower gels and body lotions will come home with me. I will mainly look into the new fall/winter smells and everything vanilla.

9. Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly: I love this shampoo and am using it since year so this is a must for me. Great for long hair as it adds some grip but is still nourishing enough for dry ends – perfect.

10. Revlon Balm Stains: They are close to the Clinique Chubby Sticks, which I love, so I want to try those as well. I want to look at the colors Precious, Sweetheart and Cherish.

11. Philosophy Purity Cleanser: A much hyped product in the blogger community and also great with the Clarisonic. As it is only available in the US this is of course must.

12. Crest Cinnamon Toothpaste: I just have to try this one, lol.

13. Marc Jacob Dots: Another perfume I smelled in a store lately and fell in love with. I also adore the bottle but the fancy one you only get if you take the big version, which is quite expensive over here so again I am hoping for a duty free deal.

14. Yankee Candles: I know that there is a store in my favorite outlet mall, which we will definitely go to so I will pay a visit.

15. Tarte Amazonian Blushes: I heard lots of great things about those products and the price is decent (at least when bought in the States). Want to look at Achiote, Frisky and Natural Beauty.

16. Burt’s Bees Lip Balm: I love the regular version, which comes with mint, but also everything with fruit included.

So, now it is up to you: what else should I look at/definitely buy?

Love, S.

Body Mists by The Body Shop

Body mists of all sorts are well established in the US. I cannot remember any visits to the mall without dropping into a Bath & Bodyworks and picking up a few bottles (besides all the body lotions and body washes). They have however never been that popular in Germany and Europe in general.

As of late The Body Shop released a new series of body mists, while also relaunching a lot (if not even all) of their products including a new design on the products. That new design is quite appealing for me and as I love everything which smells good I wanted to try them out as soon as possible.

On my way back to the subway the other day I passed by one of their boutiques and went inside. I usually do not like to stay in their stores too long as the smell can be quite overpowering so I went straight for the body mists. Right away I saw that they also came out with one of my favorite scents: the pink grapefruit line. I did not really have to think twice and bought one bottle but managed to stick to this one product.

The come in eight different scents (besides pink grapefruit they have shea butter, moringa, vanilla, satsuma, mango, coconut, and strawberry available) and they cost 9 Euro for 100ml (I think I paid 95 DKK here in Denmark though).

I have to admit: if you prefer to wear perfume the body mist might be nothing for you as the smell is definitely there. And wearing two scents and not being able to smell any one of them properly does not really makes sense. But I think that especially in the summer the body mist is a nice alternative for perfume. It feels fresh on the skin and can just be reapplied if needed throughout the day. I already used it all day today when it was so warm and I loved to refresh a little bit after sitting in the sun for an hour.

Even though pink grapefruit is perfect for summer days I will definitely stock up on vanilla and moringa when I am in Germany in three weeks.

Love, S.
