When The Leaves Are Falling…

… you know that it is fall.

Yesterday I picked up my American mentee from the airport. As he had not brought any kind of toiletries we went to Matas, our Danish drugstore chain. They have quite “posh” kind of stores, all of them having also Clinique, Chanel, Dior, etc. And they all have an Essie counter.

Was I surprised when I suddenly saw the fall collection in the store already! Denmark is usually weeks (if not even months) behind, when it comes to brining out any kind of LE’s. But not this time so I took my chance and decided for a total of four colors. Yes, I really could not cut it down.

The collection is called “Stylenomics” and as an Econ student I just had to get a few of the colors (read the names below and you will know why, hehe). I also love that it is such a fall collection. Lots of dark reds, greens, and greys. The whole collection consists of six colors and I decided for the following four:

So as you can see the colors I picked are: “stylenomics” (dark green), “recessionista” (dark red), “miss fancy pants” (light grey), and “don’t sweater it” (dark grey). On the Essie homepage it looks like “don’t sweater it” is the lighter one of the greyish shades, but above you can see that this is not the case. And (at least in the bottle) it is alos missing that pinkish hue it has on the promo picture. We will see how it shows up on the nails.

I am totally in fall mood by now and put on “recessionista” today, paired with tights, skirt and t-shirt in black and my new Zara cardigan in dark green. I am feeling ready to head back to school on Monday after a busy summer.

New In – Clinique

If you did not know it yet I have to tell you that Clinique is not offering the same products in every country. They do in example not offer the same product range in Denmark than they do offer in Germany (less products here in Denmark) but the products being offered up here do at least look the same (though they are slightly more expensive). In the UK on the other hand Clinique offers products, where the wrapping looks different than in other parts of Europe. And I am sure it is the same in the US.

So every time I want to have a certain Clinique product, which is not being offered up here I have to buy it in Germany (or I buy it down in Germany in purpose as it is so much cheaper down there). After hearing lots of good stuff about their new even better concealer I wanted to try it. Of course it is not (yet) available up here and the same went for the new colors of the chubby sticks so I placed a little order in Germany and got the products send to my parents.

As you can see I got the concealer in the lightest shade called “natural” and it is actually rather light thought slightly darker than my MAC NC15 concealer. It is also quite thick and therefore a bit harder to apply than the MAC one. We will see how that works on my skin.

For the chubby stick I decided for the color 09 heaping hazelnut – a lovely nude, which I absolutely love.

Additionally I was able to pick two trial products and went (of course) for my beloved high impact mascara. As I was running out of mine that works quite good. The other product I could not find when I took the pictures but it is a trial size of their “Happy” perfume and it smells really good. I love that is it quite big (way bigger than the usual mini sized) and I will enjoy taking it travelling with me.

Manhatten Blogger Collection

Manhattan Cosmetics worked together with two famous German style blogs: Modepilot and Styleproofed. Together they created two lines of nail polishes, which are currently available allover Germany.

The colors range from classy, over trendy to stylish. Glitter, neon, and bolt colors included. On several blogs one color popped up more often than any other: 7S (too bad they do not have proper names). 7S is a light mint color with subtle glitter inside and comes in the Styleproofed edition.

When standing in front of the stand I also decided for another color: 8M from the Modepilot edition. The two colors I picked are slightly similar as both go into the mint-colored direction. 7S is more creamy and also way more difficult to apply. A first quick attempt can be seen below. 8M on the other hand gives perfect coverage with the first application (though I went for two just in case).

I like the idea of bloggers being able to created their own nail polish line. It also makes sense, that they only picked two bloggers (easier to coordinate) and that they are actually fashion and not beauty bloggers as beauty has so much to do with fashion as well. I am looking forward to seeing more of those colaborations.

Neon Love

When I was in Germany over the last two weekends I took the chance to grab three of the four new Essie colors from the latest “poppy razzi” limited edition. The edition comes along in four bright neon colors, which scream “summer” for me.

  • lights - an electric pink neon
  • camera - a brilliant coral pink neon
  • action - a vibrant light orange neon
  • bazooka - a bright orange neon

The colors one essie’s homepage are in my opinion a bit misleading in my opinion. When you hold Bazooka next to the other colors (as you can see I decided against Action) it does indeed look quite orangy. When you take the bottle on its own it looks way more red than orange though.

Just for the fun of it I tried out all three colors on my nails the other day. Here you can also see that the difference between Bazooka (right) and Camera (middle) is less on the nail than in the bottle.

Initially I thought that Bazooka would be my favorite but after seeing the colors on my nails I have to say that I am a Lights-fan all the way. Nothing beats that bright neon pink!

My only little complaint here is that it took quite long until the colors where available here in Europe. We just had another heat wave so neon colors where appropriate. But today in two weeks it is September already, and September means back to school, fall, wooly sweaters and big scarfs. And I cannot quite imagine neon colors to go with that. Besides, the new fall edition “yogaga” is already out in the States (and I am already in love with Stylenomics – as an Economics students with a love for fashion a MUST)!

Les Essentiels de Chanel – Fall 2012

The new Chanel nail polishes are out. And Iw as lucky enough to get two of them already. The new Les Essentiels de Chanel Fall 2012 line comes in three colors:

  • 550 Frenzy – A nude grey-beige, which is supposed to be THE it color of the season.
  • 561 Suspicious – A deep-reddish pink.
  • 563 Vertigo – A chocolate brown with hints of deep purple.

As I got so many lovely pinks already I decided against Suspicious and only got Frenzy and Vertigo. I was a big 505 fan and the nail polish started to discolor. Nothing will be able to replace my beloved 505 but for now Frenzy and Vertigo are good alternatives. Both colors cover fully with the second layer and can both be worn in an office environment (in my opinion at least).

The colors should be out everywhere soon (I actually saw it in only one store last Saturday and we went into many, including the airports Düsseldorf and Copenhagen) and I am not sure if it is a limited edition or if the colors will join the regular colors. So if you want to have Frenzy (or the other two) you better be quick.

Love, S.
