Travel Essentials – Part 1

The next couple of days we are spending in London for my birthday (it is official: I am not in my 20s anymore). For me any kind of vacation includes lots of planning and for a weekend trip (2-4 days) even more – after all you do not want to bring your whole closet (or makeup supply) for such an occasion.

I therefore have a little box at home where I collect mini-bottles of my favorite beauty products in order to not having to bring all of my full-size products. I thought it would be interesting for you to see what I take with me when travelling:

Shower:

SONY DSC

Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo // Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor Conditioner // L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil // Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild

After the shower:

SONY DSC

Bath & Bodyworks Warm Vanilla Sugar Bodylotion // Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 // Dove Grapefruit & Lemongrass Deodorant // Origins Make A Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Treatment // Colgate Toothpaste

Hair Products:

SONY DSC

Bumble & Bumble Texture Cream // Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray // OSIS Extreme Hold Hairspray // Moroccanoil Hair Oil

At night:

SONY DSC

Sephora Express Cleansing Whipes // Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover // Origins Super Spot Remover // Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus // Origins GinZeng Eyecream // NUXE Lip Balm

This is it for my daily beauty routine when I go traveling. As you can see there are still some full-size products included. I have for example also some little pots I could but my face lotion inside and I have some travel size samples from Clinique I could use instead.

However my face lotion is almost empty anyway so why exchange that, right? I am checking in a suitcase anyway so no need for going 50ml only. And I also would probably cut down on hair products should I only be able to take a carry on.

What do you like to take travelling and are you refilling or do you buy mini sizes?

Yankee Love

The ones following me for a while know how much I love candles. Due to the fact that I live in Denmark at the moment I unfortunately have a hard time getting my hands on Yankee candles, and the ones from Bath & Bodyworks are also out of the question.

SONY DSC

The Nelly online store thankfully has some of the little samplers and I tried various kinds this summer and fall. Now when we left for Florida I knew I wanted to dig a bit more deeply into candles. I decided for the Yankee tarts even before I left, just because everything else was bearing one big problem: glass jars. Especially the Yankee ones come in quite heavy ones and there was no chance on earth that I would take those home with me. So even though I would have loved to try them I tore myself away from them rather quickly and stocked up on tarts only, as they way about nothing. And how I stocked up…

In Florida we went to regular malls and outlet malls and thankfully Yankee is also represented in those. 12 tarts for $10 – such a bargain. I bought myself 12 right the first time I hit the first store and my mom was so nice to buy me my second pack of 12 a few days later. Additionally I went into a store in a regular mall (the outlet ones do not always have all different kinds etc.) and bought an additional pack of 10. So lucky me came home with a pack of 34 tarts, most are some vanilla kind or with fruit.

And oh how do I love them. The special thing about the tarts is that they are just wax but not a candle. You put them on top of a so called “tarts wax melt warmer” and light a tea light underneath. After a while the wax melts and the smell startes to fill the room. As soon as you extinguish the tea light the wax becomes hart again rather soon and the smell fades. According to Yankee the candle lasts up to 8 hours, which I do not quite agree on. I use a tart about 2-3 times for around 6 hours. Yes, the smell becomes less over time but on the other hand it is not as overpowering anymore. I tried cinnamon the other day and that was quite a “strong” smell when I used it the first time but became better the 2nd and 3rd one. And even when you are done using it there is still smell in the wax and I read that you can i.e. put it between your folded laundry. So far I have only used soap bars but I will try a vanilla scented wax tart as soon as I am done using it.

SONY DSCAbove you can see, which tart holder I got myself. I went for a rather simple design and as all of our furniture are white, dark wood and dark leather I thought this fits rather nicely. They have lots of different little holders and should I ever have the opportunity to live in the States again I will most definitely indulge in more Yankee things.

Florida via Instagram

Like you could see from my previous post I did not take too many pictures. I just did not feel like luggin around the big camera all the time and my parents and especially sister did not feel like being photographed all the time. And besides… in a shopping mall I did not really have use for a camera as my focus was on different objects (word catch, lol)…

Anyhow – I did however manage to take around 120 pictures with my phone, most of them I had posted on Instagram before. I put the best ones together for you so enjoy.

I am back…

Sorry for my lack of absence over the last couple of weeks. But now I am back. Back from 10 amazing days in Florida and back with new energy for school, work, and blogging :) (besides that I have acquired lots of great products in the US, which I cannot wait to share with you).

As I just returned yesterday and spend the best part of day in bed today this post (and the next one as well) will be mainly containing some Florida impressions – I hope you do not mind. Within this week I will start testing and using my new products and start taking pictures to share them all with you.

But for now: enjoy some of the sunshine I brought with me:

1., 2. & 3.: View from our apartment. The first one was taken at 06:30 in the morning on our first day. It got better and warmer over the next couple of days and we did not have a single drop of rain within the 10 days. We also had dolphin visits almost every day. Can you see the fin sticking out of the water on picture 3?

4. & 5.: Some views of our apartment. I never took pictures of the whole place (I should have – such a shame). It was such a nice place. I captured the kitchen though, which was absolutely amazing. I am wishing for such a nice and big kitchen later on. Picture 5 shows my sister’s and my room – messy as always, lol.

6. – 10.: Our apartment was in Madeira Beach, Florida, close to John’s Pass. John’s Pass is one of the very few places, which opens up the Boca Ciega Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. John’s Pass includes both a big draw bridge (amazing sight when the bridge pulls up) and the John’s Pass Fishing Village, which is touristy but in a very charming way. From John’s Pass a lot of fishing and dolphin tours are leaving every day. I really loved walking along the pier in the sunshine and just enjoying myself (while eating some pretty damn good ice cream).

11. – 16.: And yes, we also took a dolphin tour. Even though it was pretty chilly on the boat we got to see quit a few dolphins. They are such amazing animals and have cute little faces. Besides seing lots of dolphins we sailed along some really amazing houses (I picked out my favorite but forgot to take a picture) and a bird reservoir. Definitely something you should do while down there.

Love, S.
